Extra-Curricular Activities

At Hob Hill we believe in offering the children opportunities to enjoy a range of activities beyond the curriculum, in order to further develop a wide variety of skills and interests.  We offer a range of after-school clubs, as well musical instrument tuition and other opportunities beyond the standard curriculum.  We regularly survey the children to find out which activities they would like to take part in, changing the programme each term to meet their interests.

After-School Clubs

These are just a sample fo the clubs we have offered oiver the last two years:

  • Football (Progressive Sports)
  • Netball
  • JC+Me (Christian) Club (Church Members)
  • Choir
  • Mini Zumba
  • Marathon Club
  • Fencing/Multi-Sports (Progressive Sports)
  • Gardening & Cookery (with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust)
  • Film Club

Hob Hill Family Gardening Club

Things have been happening on our new allotment! We have been working closely with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and we now have 4 raised beds which enable us to do a 4 year crop rotation. The four vegetable families are cabbages, peas and beans, potatoes and root vegetables. We have already planted onions, garlic, cabbages, peas and broad beans. They are over wintering under a cosy fleece and are already starting to grow well. Our hedgehog box still seems to be empty, but hopefully next year it may attract the attention of a sleepy hedgehog looking for a place to keep warm.

Thanks to the efforts of everyone working very hard with rakes and brushes, we have filled the new compost bins to the top with leaves . We have learned about composting and begun to make posters to go around school to explain what can go into the compost bins.

Gardening Club members have also planted lots of bulbs in our new planters at the front of the school, so watch out for those beginning to come up as the weather turns warmer.

There are lots more exciting things still to be done. We will have our new greenhouse and some more new tools for the start of club in Spring term, and we will be using our produce to cook alternate weeks. Thank you to The Big Lottery Fund for financing this project.

Enrichment Activities

As well as our after-school clubs, we try to provide opportunities beyond the normal curriculum which enrich the children's experience.

Recently, Miss Wharton shared her talent as a jewellery maker with children from Reception and Y5.
