Christian Character

'The Christian vision is evident throughout the work of the school. It has the flourishing of children at its heart. Consequently, all who enter Hob Hill receive a warm, friendly welcome.'

SIAMS Inspection Report, 2019

Hob Hill is the only Church of England and Methodist combined Primary School in Staffordshire.  We believe this results in a unique and distinctive character for our school.  Our vision and values as a school community are informed by two similar, yet distinct Christian traditions so we are a little different from most other Church Schools.

We are supported by members of the community at St. Michael's Church, Brereton and the local methodist circuit.  Ministers and members of the church communities support our Collective Worship and RE teaching. Representatives from both Church traditions also have the role of Foundation Governor on our governing body.

We also work in partnership with the Lichfield Diocesan Board of Education and Methodist Schools Service in continually improving as a Church School.  Follow the links to find out more.

Prayer

Prayer is an important part of school life at Hob Hill.  As well as praying together during Collective Worship and at the beginning and end of the day, the children also have opportunities for 'free prayer' during Class Worship.  Other opportunities for prayer include:

  • A prayer and reflection room ~ where children can come to have quite time.
  • The 'Share a Prayer' board ~ children can write a prayer to be shared with the whole school in Collective Worship;
  • Prayer books/displays in class ~ children can contribute prayers for Class Worship;
  • Prayer and Reflection areas in each classroom ~ used in Class Worship and available to the children for personal use;
  • An online prayer request facility ~ children and their families can request prayers from a link on the school website.

St Michael's Church, Brereton

We visit St Michael's regularly to celebrate festivals such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Ash Wednesday.  Our Year 6 children have a special leavers' service here every year.

SIAMS

SIAMS is the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. This is also known as a Section 48 inspection. The new SIAMS judgments are: Excellent, Good, Requires Improvement or Ineffective.

A SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school's Christian vision on pupils and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish.

Our most recent SIAMS Inspection was carried out in October 2019; we were judged to be a Good school.

Collective Worship

As a Church school, Collective Worship is an important time during which we can share in celebrating God's love and learning more about our Christian faith.  Through stories, songs, drama, games and prayer, we aim to help the children to develop their spirituality, as well as becoming more understanding of the beliefs of others.

The Christian values we promote through collective worship are the foundation of our school ethos and are important for all of our pupils to learn, whether they come from a Christian background or not.  Parents do have the right to withdraw their children from Collective Worship, but we encourage the involvement of all pupils so that their sense of belonging as a member of our school family can be strengthened.

What our children like about Collective Worship:

    • listening to stories (from the Bible)
    • praying to God
    • talking through weekly themes
    • quiet time
    • going to church
    • singing and music
    • answering questions
    • watching plays
    • worship committee

Our Collective Worship Timetable:

Monday  Whole School
Wednesday  EYFS/KS1 Singing
Thursday KS2 Singing
Friday  Whole School Celebration

Brereton Methodist Church

Sadly, our local Methodist Church closed in March 2025.  However, we still work closely with the local Methodist circulit and consider Brereton Methoidst to be an import part of school history.
