Welcome to the Year 6 page!
Mrs Broccolo, Miss Culverwell, Mrs Grimley and Miss Skelton would like to welcome you back to your final year at Hob Hill! Reading is exceptionally important as it impacts all areas of the curriculum. Please encourage your child to become a confident reader by reading regularly and taking an interest in the books they choose.
Reading books should be brought to school every day and Reading Records signed weekly.
Suggested questions to ask your child when listening to them read.
- Who is the author? Illustrator?
- What kind of book is it? (fiction/ non-fiction/ poetry etc)
- Can you tell anything about the book before you start reading? How do you know?
- What has happened so far?
- What do you think might happen next? Why?
- How would you like the story to end?
- Where is the story set?
- Who are the characters? Who do you like? Dislike? Why?
- How is the character feeling? Which words suggest this?
- Find a word that means the same as…
Spelling is a big priority in Class 6. Please learn your weekly spellings and be ready for a test each Thursday. As well as weekly lists, you should be able to spell the words of the statutory lists below.
